The Magic Experiment and Its First Results

With its diameter of 17m, the MAGIC telescope is the largest Cherenkov detector for gamma ray astrophysics. It is sensitive to photons above an energy of 30 GeV. MAGIC started operations in October 2003 and is currently taking data. This report summarizes its main characteristics, its first results and its potential for physics.

This article describes the state of knowledge of weak interactions in 1960, the conception and implementation of the first high-energy neutrino experiment, and the not altogether unexpected result that the muon neutrino is different from the electron neutrino.

Results from the First 249 Cf + 48 Ca Experiment

First physics results from the HARP experiment at CERN

The first physics results of the HARP experiment are presented. We emphasize the high performance of the forward part of the apparatus. The differential raw pion yield and its efficiency correction up to polar angles of 250 mrad are shown. The analysed setting is 12.9 GeV /c incident protons in a 5% interacion legth aluminium target.
